Launched 18 May 1939. Completed 25 March 1941.

Sunk 16 June 1942 during Operation Harpoon / Vigorous by torpedoes from German submarine U205, north of Sollum (87 lost).

Hermione served with the 2nd Cruiser Squadron during the hunt for Bismarck, then joined Force H at Gibraltar in June 1941. She served with Force H until March 1942, participating in many Malta convoys and in the operations to fly fighter reinforcements to the island from the west. On 2 August 1941 she rammed and sank the Italian submarine Tembien in the Sicilian Narrows. In March 1942 she escorted the invasion convoy for Operation Ironclad from Gibraltar to Durban, and in May participated in the occupation of Madagascar. She was then ordered to the eastern Mediterranean as part of the 15th Cruiser Squadron, and took part in the eastern convoy of Operation Harpoon/Vigorous in June 1942, but was torpedoed and sunk on 16 June south of Crete by U205.
